A Centre Moderator is appointed for each Access provider to oversee the internal processes. A Subject Moderator is also appointed to support the the Access Moderators by focussing on the quality and standards of assessment at subject level.

The Moderator’s role is crucial in:

  • ensuring Gateway Qualifications meets its responsibilities as an Access Validating Agency (AVA) for the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) recognised Access to HE Diploma
  • maintaining the credibility of local Access to HE provision through ensuring consistency in the award of both credit and the QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma
  • maintaining the quality and consistency of local Access to HE provision.
