Following successful completion of this Diploma, learners will be able to progress to University to study a range of social studies and humanities pathways, including sociology and social policy, applied social studies, education and criminology.

Rules of Combination

The Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification with common requirements relating to the description of student achievement.

The Diploma is a credit-based, graded qualification, and requirements relate to both the award of credit and to the award of grades. Individual named Diplomas are identified by separate titles and are validated at local level by Access Validating Agencies (AVAs).

The Diploma has its own approved set of units of assessment, governed by rules of combination, which are appropriate to the subject of the Diploma. Common grading requirements apply to all individual Diplomas.

Additional funding information for Access to HE

  • Access to HE is eligible for funding as part of the legal entitlement offer.
  • Access to HE is eligible for funding via Advanced Learner Loans and appears on the Advanced Learner Loans catalogues published by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
  • Access to HE Diplomas are designed for adult learners aged 19+ and the ESFA only funds young people on these programmes by exception, as stated in paragraph 149, page 39 of the Funding guidance for young people 2020 to 2021.
