Why choose this qualification?
Functional Skills Qualifications in English and mathematics are being reformed and the new qualifications will be introduced for first teaching in September 2019. Gateway Qualifications has taken the decision not to offer the new qualifications and also to withdraw its Information Communication Technology (ICT) Functional Skills qualification offer at the same time.
We recognise the importance of English and maths to our centres and learners and remain committed to encouraging their development. We are currently investigating how we might further support learners through our English and maths suite of bite size units and our vocational and employability qualifications at level 2 and below.

We are also developing a new suite of Basic Digital Skills to meet the DfE Basic Skills Agenda and proposed entitlement for adults from 2020. If you would like to contribute to the review on English and maths and/or input to the development of the basic skills qualifications, please contact qualdev@gatewayqualifications.org.uk. We will then arrange for one of our qualifications development team to contact you.
Notice of Qualification Withdrawal
The operational end date (last date for new starts) for the qualifications will be 31st August 2019. The final assessment date including resits will be 30th November 2019. The final moderation date will be 7th December 2019 and the final certification date will be 31st December 2019.
We recognise the importance of English and maths to our centres and learners and remain committed to encouraging their development through our English and maths bite size offer, available from Entry 1 to Level 2. Each unit can be delivered as a standalone qualification and/or embedded as part of other learning programmes for example those that focus on employability, those where the main focus is a vocational or technical qualification.
The qualifications can boost learners’ confidence by enabling them to address their areas of weakness. This should support them to progress to Functional Skills or GCSE English.
Further information is available on our English and maths qualifications pages or via our Contact us page.
Please ensure that any information on the qualification held by your centre is updated. If you have any questions about this matter please do not hesitate to contact quality@gatewayqualifications.org.uk
