  • Why choose this qualification?

Available at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1 these qualifications have been developed to enable the accreditation of the transferable skills that learners gain through active involvement in their own learning programme.

The qualifications provide an opportunity to recognise the transferable skills learners develop through actively engaging in their own learning programme.

They enable providers to offer accreditation for highly personalised programmes, where it might not be appropriate to use qualifications to recognise the specific content but where it might be desirable to capture the process skills learners are developing along the way.

Focusing on the learning skills gives providers the freedom to select contexts for learning that are suitable for individuals or specific groups of learners, and hence personalise their learning, while supporting progression to a wide range of further learning opportunities.

    Rules of Combination

Learners must complete 15 credits, of which a minimum of 9 credits must be at Level 1. Learners cannot include more than one unit with the same or similar title. For full details see list of barred units.

What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

This qualification includes the transferable skills that learners develop through actively engaging in their own learning programme, such as target-setting, making choices about learning, monitoring progress, recognising achievement, and planning for progression. None of the units is mandatory, enabling learners to focus on those that are most significant to their progress.

How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?

There is an Award and Certificate with this title. The Certificate is most suitable for learners who need to develop a range of learning skills over a period of time, in order to progress either to further learning or to achieve their specific goals. The Certificate can be used in parallel with other sector or subject-specific qualifications where a learner needs additional input to develop the learning skills needed for progression.

Which sector does this qualification support?

This qualification is not intended to lead directly to employment, although for those learners who do progress into a job the skills covered will be of use in an employment context.

    What are the progression options?

This qualification will support further Level 1 or Level 2 learning in any area as its focus is on developing the core skills required to optimise learning experiences.

    Progression & Entry Requirements

The qualification is designed for learners who are working primarily at Level 1, some of whom may have learning difficulties or disabilities, and who wish to have recognised the skills they are developing, through learning programmes that are focused on enabling them to reach their personal goals, whether they relate to further learning, employment or increased independence. No prior attainment is needed.
