The primary purpose of this qualification is to increase the understanding of brain-friendly learning in order to become more skilled in supporting children’s learning.
For the Level 2 Award in Brain-friendly Learning for Children at Home qualification learners will take two mandatory units which cover the concept of brain-friendly learning and its relationship to the accelerated learning cycle, the structure and functions of the brain and how they relate to learning, intelligence types and learning styles. Also, the skills to plan and reflect on the use of a brain-friendly learning activity for children at home.
This qualification is not intended to lead to employment but the knowledge and skills gained would be useful if learners decided to train for and/or seek employment in a job role where they would be responsible for supporting children’s learning and development, such as a nursery nurse, classroom assistant, play worker or teacher. Individuals do not need any prior qualifications or specific levels of attainment but they must be aged 16 or over to take the qualification.
This qualification could support progression to a qualification in learning support or working with children, such as Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Childcare or a Cache Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. This qualification is available at two different levels (Levels 1 and 2). Learners are likely to benefit from the Level 2 Award if they have some experience already of working at Level 1 and/or 2 in other aspects of learning. Training providers should discuss which level would be most appropriate for each individual.

This qualification is suitable for learners if individuals wish to develop your understanding of brain-friendly learning as a means to accelerate their children’s learning.
