Rules of Combination
Learners must complete a minimum of 55 credits including 31 credits from Mandatory Group M and a minimum of 17 credits from Optional Group OA. Remaining credits can come from Optional Groups OA or OB with a maximum of 7 credits from Optional Group OB.

What is the purpose of this qualification?
This qualification is approved to be offered in England only. It offers an engaging programme for learners who have decided that they are going to progress up the career ladder in a wide range of commercial and public sector areas.
The qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a supervisory position.
It is suitable for those wishing to change career or moving to a particular area of employment following a career break. Many learners will already be working in management roles.
This qualification covers the core skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work in management roles.
What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?
The qualification comprises of 55 credits and requires between 284 and 371 guided learning hours.
Learners will complete five mandatory units:
• Manage team performance
• Principles of people management
• Principles of business
• Principles of leadership and management
• Manage personal and professional development
They will then select optional units from a range of groups including:
• Manage conflict within a team
• Procure products and/or services
• Implement change
• Implement and maintain business continuity plans and processes Collaborate with other departments
• Support remote or virtual teams Participate in a project
• Develop and maintain professional networks
• Develop and implement an operational plan
• Encourage learning and development
• Discipline and grievance management.
How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?
Gateway Qualifications offers other Level 3 qualifications which may be more suitable if learners wish to specialise within specific sectors in a team leading or lower managerial/supervisory role, for example within customer service or business environments or the logistics or retail sectors. The following qualifications are available from Gateway Qualifications:
• Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Business Admin – which is suitable for people working at supervisory level in business administration role
• Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Customer Service – which is suitable for people working within a customer service environment in a team leading or supervisory or management role.
• Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Supply Chain Management allows learners to demonstrate competence whilst learning the underpinning knowledge and understanding of supply chain management.
Which sector does this qualification support?
An alternative qualification which includes supply chain, but also has a focus on procurement is the Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Procurement and Supply.
The qualification provides learners with a range of management techniques and leadership skills, such as managing performance and developing self and others, contributing to meetings and leading a team.
This qualification is primarily intended as a means of developing the skills, knowledge and understanding of those already employed in management roles. It forms part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in management.
Job roles may include:
• Section Manager
• Assistant Manager
• Senior Supervisor
• Junior Non-Commissioned Officer.
What are the progression options?
Learners could choose to progress to completing the Advanced Apprenticeship in Management.
Learners may wish to progress further through the study of related vocational or personal and social development qualifications including:
• Level 4 Diploma in Management
• Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Business Administration.
Progression & entry requirementsThe qualification is available to learners aged 16 and above. No prior qualifications or specific level of attainment are required. However it is expected that learners should be able to work at level 2 or above or have equivalent work experience in management. Learners should be proficient in the use of the English language.
