Assessment Guidance

Learners should be working with and closely supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced adult when addressing Learning Outcomes 3 and 4. They should be following instructions at all times and responsible for completing only aspects of feeding and grooming animals.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Know about providing food and water to animals.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Identify the correct feed, feeding method and means of providing water for a chosen animal.

  • 1.2

    Give reasons why it is important to follow key health, safety and hygiene rules when caring for and providing food and water to animals.


2.

Know about grooming animals.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Identify different animals that need grooming.

  • 2.2

    List key grooming techniques to be used for a specific animal.

  • 2.3

    Identify key grooming tools and equipment to be used for a specific animal.

  • 2.4

    Give reasons why it is important to follow key health and safety rules when grooming animals.


3.

Be able to assist with providing food and water for animals.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Follow key health, safety and hygiene rules when assisting with providing food and water for a chosen animal.

  • 3.2

    Follow instructions to feed a chosen animal.

  • 3.3

    Follow instructions to supply water to a chosen animal.


4.

Be able to assist in grooming an animal.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Follow key health, safety and hygiene rules when grooming a chosen animal, including wearing appropriate PPE.

  • 4.2

    Follow instructions to groom a chosen small animal, using given tools and techniques correctly.

  • 4.3

    Follow instructions to clean grooming area and equipment after use, and to replace these correctly.
