    Adapt pattern piece technical instructions to reflect the performance characteristics of a variety of specified fabrics.

Be able to perform lay planning.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Explain the importance of straight grain markings on pattern pieces for lay planning.
  • 3.2
    Plan and place pattern pieces and mark in (trace) following grain lines and pattern piece marking to eliminate waste for fabrics with different characteristics.
  • 3.3
    Measure quantity (length and width) of fabric required for each lay plan.
  • 3.4
    Calculate the cost of the fabric required for each lay plan.
  • 3.5
    Compare fabric costings and select the most economical lay plan.
