Apprenticeship Standard: Healthcare Support Worker

The Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard is designed for apprentices working as part of a team providing care to individuals such as monitoring an individual’s conditions by checking things like blood pressure, temperature or weight, and checking on their overall progress, comfort and wellbeing.

Job roles may include a range of healthcare settings and teams may include workers from both health and social care.

Full details of the standard are available on the Institute for Apprenticeships website.

Mandated qualification requirements

The Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard requires achievement of the following qualification for all apprentices:

Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Diploma in Care

Complementary additional support qualifications

The following qualifications may be used to support apprentices to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

English and Maths support

All apprentices must also achieve level 1 English and maths and take the test for level 2 prior to taking their EPA. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the  minimum requirement is Entry Level 3.

You may find our Functional Skills qualifications, or bite-sized English and Maths qualifications can help support apprentices to achieve this.
