Assessment Guidance

The focus of the assessment for this unit is on problem-solving skills. However, it is expected that the underpinning teaching and learning will help develop learners’ awareness of:

• common types of problem
• ways to recognise and describe or define problems
• sources of help in solving problems.

Aim

To help learners develop the skills they need to tackle problems relating to work.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.

Be able to select solutions to a problem or issue.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Identify the nature of the problem and why it needs to be solved in order to move forward (e.g. I need a way of getting to my job interview now that my sister isn’t able to take me).

  • 1.2

    Identify possible solutions to a particular problem or issue affecting self, using own experience and ideas and/or given sources of help, support and guidance.

  • 1.3

    Select an appropriate solution to the problem or issue.

Be able to apply a strategy to address a problem or issue.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Take appropriate steps to address a specific straightforward problem affecting self, once a particular solution has been chosen.
