Assessment Guidance

The main focus of the assessment for this unit is on the skills required to keep safe. However, it is expected that the underpinning teaching and learning will help develop learners’ awareness of:

• the importance of keeping safe and possible consequences of not considering own safety
• their own responsibility for keeping safe
• strategies for keeping safe at home and when in the community.

Aim

To help learners understand how to keep safe both at home and when they are out in the community.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.

Be able to keep safe in own home.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Use different strategies to keep self safe at home (e.g. to deal with unknown callers or to secure the house at night).


2.

Be able to keep safe when in the community.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Plan or prepare for a trip out with regard to personal safety.

  • 2.2

    Use different strategies to keep safe when out in the community (e.g. to take care of own belongings, use money or interact with others).


3.

Know what actions to take if they feel unsafe.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Outline different ways to seek help if they feel unsafe.

  • 3.2

    State how to report incidents relating to personal safety.
