Assessment Guidance

The main focus of the assessment for this unit is on the skills required to communicate within relationships. However, it is expected that the underpinning teaching and learning will help develop learners’ awareness of:

• different types and purposes of (verbal and/or non-verbal) communication in relationships
• the importance of consent
• what constitutes inappropriate behaviour and how to respond when they are on the receiving end of this.

Aim

To help learners understand different types of relationship and the different ways to communicate within them.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.

Know about types of relationship.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Describe different types of relationship (e.g. with friends, with acquaintances, family, professional, sexual).

  • 1.2

    Identify differences between different types of relationships.


2.

Be able to communicate in relationships.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Use appropriate forms of communication to:

    • greet people in different types of relationship
    • show feelings to people in different types of relationship
    • share thoughts and ideas with people in different types of relationship.

3.

Be able to respond to others in relationships.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Give or withhold consent in different situations, in line with own wishes.

  • 3.2

    Recognise when the behaviours of another person are not appropriate to the relationship.

  • 3.3

    Identify sources of support and/or ways to report inappropriate or unwanted behaviours.
