Aim

• To provide an introduction to key software commonly used in the creative industries
• To allow familiarisation with appropriate design and media tools/equipment
• To support the development of practical design and multi-media skills in line with project and portfolio work
• To experiment with a range of illustration and visual communication skills mixing digital with physical media
• To provide opportunities for working collaboratively in creative teams

Unit Learning Outcomes

Be able to use media and design tools/equipment to create mixed-media artefacts. 

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Demonstrate basic photography skills for studio-based and location shoots. 

  • 1.2

    Utilise suitable technology to create mixed-media images/artefacts.

Be able to utilise a range of digital design software. 

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Select and apply appropriate software packages for specified tasks. 

  • 2.2

    Edit a series of images using Photoshop. 

  • 2.3

    Combine photographic images and original composition and/or illustration to create new imagery.

Be able to communicate using mixed media.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Utilise a variety of practical hand-rendered illustration techniques using wet and dry media to create a series of experimental fashion illustrations. 

  • 3.2

    Blend digital media with physical/ hand-drawn media to create a series of original mixed-media outcomes.

Be able to work collaboratively in a team on creative multi-media tasks/projects. 

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Work as part of a team to produce a studio-based shoot. 

  • 4.2

    Work collaboratively to create a shared vision, selecting and/or creating sets, backdrops and props.

  • 4.3

    Work with others to plan, storyboard, style garments, shoot and edit film footage.
