1 — Understand garment construction terminology.

    Use garment construction terminology correctly. 

2 — Be able to recognise fabrics and their use. 

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Identify and name given fabrics. 

  • 2.2

    Identify the most appropriate application for given fabrics. 

3 — Know the use of threads and interfacing. 

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Identify suitable threads and interfacings for given fabrics and outline their correct application. 

4 — Be able to use sewing skills.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Use different machine stitches. 

  • 4.2

    Construct samples of:

    • seams
    • darts
    • zip insertion

5 — Know about health and safety in the workshop.

  • 5.1

    List key Health and Safety issues likely to arise in the practice of garment construction.

    Conduct all activity related to garment construction in line with health and safety procedures and relevant regulations.
