Assessment Guidance

Legislation relating to moving and handling and understand the main points of key legislation, for example:
• The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974;
• The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as amended in 2002)
• regulations from the HSE covering manual handling risk factors and how injuries can occur.
Safe moving and handling.

Hazardous substances and materials identified in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)which include substances that are corrosive.

Aim

The aim of the unit is to ensure that the learner understands and can apply health and safety procedures in the workplace.

    Identify types of hazardous substances that may be found in the work setting, explaining why they are hazardous.

    • storing hazardous substances
    • using hazardous substances
    • disposing of hazardous substances and materials.

Be able to promote fire safety in the work setting.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Explain practices that prevent fires from:

    • starting
    • spreading.
  • 3.2

    Explain emergency procedures to be followed in the event of a fire in the work setting.

  • 3.3

    Demonstrate measures that prevent fires from starting.

  • 3.4

    Ensure clear evacuation routes are maintained at all times.

Be able to implement security measures in the work setting.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Explain the importance of ensuring that others are aware of own whereabouts.

  • 4.2

    Use agreed procedures for checking the identity of anyone requesting access to:

    • premises
    • information.

    Use measures to protect own security and the security of others in the work setting.
