    Explain how the needs of ESOL learners differ from non ESOL learners.

    Explain how bilingualism can enhance the classroom environment.

    Discuss the importance of aspects of English language for ESOL learners:

    • Word recognition.
    • Phonic skills development.
    • Personal interaction with words.

Be able to use best practice approaches to plan learning opportunities for ESOL learners.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1.

    Plan an effective ESOL lesson for either a class or an individual, including three of the following teaching approaches:

    • Group activities.
    • Public (in class) speaking opportunities.
    • Use of scaffolding using native language.

    Justify choice of teaching approaches.
