1 — Be able to produce decorative seams.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Using a variety of fabrics, construct samples of:
    •slot seams
    •bound seams
    •piped seams.
2 — Be able to produce different types of buttonhole.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Using a variety of fabrics and buttons, construct samples of:
    •looped buttonholes
    •hand stitched buttonholes
    •machine stitched buttonholes.
3 — Be able to provide a variety of pleats.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Construct samples of pleats including:
    •box
    •inverted box
    •knife pleat.
4 — Be able to use bias or binding.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1
    Construct a sample of neckline with bias or binding.
5 — Be able to organise samples.

Assessment Criteria

  • 5.1
    Organise the samples produced in a reference folder.
  • 5.2
    Describe each sample and record pertinent information about its construction.
6 — Know how to produce a fabric swatch reference book.

    Describe a range of specialised fabrics and how they are used.

    Identify suppliers and costs of different specialised fabrics.
7 — Understand health and safety requirements in the work place.

    Identify key health and safety issues likely to arise in the construction of decorative seams, buttonholes and pleats.

    Conduct all activity related to production of decorative seams, buttonholes and pleats in line with relevant health and safety procedures and regulations.
