1 — Be able to prepare for tailored garment construction.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1
    Choose an appropriate commercial pattern.
  • 1.2
    Select appropriate fabric, correct trims and lining as required.
2 — Be able to prepare pattern for cutting.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1
    Use cutting instructions and technical information, and choose correct size.
  • 2.2
    Make simple adjustments to the pattern as required.
  • 2.3
    Cut out pattern pieces.
  • 2.4
    Check all pattern pieces to include interfacing pattern.
3 — Be able to prepare and cut fabric.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Steam press fabric and lay on the fold.
  • 3.2
    Transfer pattern on to fabric with inlay and tailor's markings.
  • 3.3
    Cut fabric with all markings.
4 — Be able to produce tailored trousers.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1
    Baste garment for first fitting.
  • 4.2
    Adjust baste garment for final fitting.
  • 4.3

    Manufacture final trousers, to include
    •fly front
    •side pockets
    •hook and bar/button
    •belt loops
    •waistband.
5 — Be able to apply finishing techniques.

Assessment Criteria

  • 5.1
    Top and under press tailored trousers.
  • 5.2
    Attach hook and bar.
  • 5.3
    Blind stich hem using hand method.
  • 5.4
    Final press garment for presentation.
6 — Be able to review own work.

Assessment Criteria

  • 6.1
    Describe what went well in garment construction.
  • 6.2
    Explain how the construction of the tailored trousers could be improved.
7 — Know about health and safety in garment construction.

Assessment Criteria

  • 7.1
    Identify key health and safety issues likely to arise in the practice of tailored garment construction.
  • 7.2
    Conduct all activity related to tailored garment construction in line with relevant health and safety procedures and regulations.
