    Define how the following garment details are constructed using tailoring techniques:
    •collars
    •pockets
    •cuffs
    •opening details.
  • 1.2
    Produce two tailored garment detail samples.

Be able to apply practical skills in tailoring.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Perform the following practical skills:
    •tacking stitch
    •pinning
    •marking out.
  • 2.2
    Select the correct thread, fabric and equipment required for each skill.

Understand the role of pressing during tailoring production.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Define the role of pressing in the production of a tailored garment.
  • 3.2
    Prepare equipment for use including:
    •iron and ironing surface/board
    •steam iron/press
  • 3.3
    Press samples at appropriate stages of production, setting and recording the relevant temperature and steam requirement.

Know about health and safety in the workshop.

  • 4.1
    Identify key health and safety issues that may arise in the practice of tailoring.
  • 4.2
    Conduct all activity related to tailoring in line with relevant health and safety procedures and regulations.
