  • 2.1

    Perform sewing skills required for alterations including
    •replace specified fastenings on a variety of light and heavy garments
    •make specified buttonholes
    •create trouser turn-ups
    •replace trouser pocket bags side and rear
    •use pressing and fin

Be able to make alterations to tailored garments.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Select thread and haberdashery components to match existing garments.
  • 3.2

    Make alterations to tailored garments including
    •repair a damaged area of a garment
    •alter a shirt to make a slimmer fit
    •taper a pair of trousers
    •replace the zip in a garment
    •press and finish garments.

    Identify health and safety issues likely to arise in the practice of altering tailored garments.
