Assessment Guidance

Portfolio of EvidenceLearners should be supervised by an appropriate person when providing a sport or exercise massage. They are not expected to provide the massage to a paying client and it would be acceptable for them to provide the massage to a fellow student.

    Describe the roles and responsibilities of different sports massage professionals and the environments in which they work.

    Outline the different sorts of treatment offered by sports massage professionals and the circumstances in which the treatments might be sought.

    Describe potential routes into sports massage as a career.

Be able to prepare to offer a sport or exercise massage.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Carry out pre-treatment consultations for different clients and record key information gained.
  • 3.2
    Identify any relevant contraindications.
  • 3.3
    Prepare a treatment plan including pre-, inter- and post-massage treatments, duration of session and techniques to be used.

Be able to perform sport or exercise massage techniques.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1
    Perform a sport or exercise massage on two different clients, in line with treatment plan.
  • 4.2
    Demonstrate appropriate massage techniques.
  • 4.3
    Apply appropriate mediums during massage.

Be able to review own performance in providing sport or exercise massage.

Assessment Criteria

  • 5.1
    Review own performance in providing sport or exercise massage against treatment plan.
  • 5.2
    Use own self- assessment and feedback from others (e.g. participants or observers) to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement.
  • 5.3
    Set out a development plan for improving own performance in providing sport or exercise massage.
