In this unit, learners will learn how to engage in discussion with others, in both familiar and unfamiliar situations.

    Make relevant contributions to discussions in familiar and unfamiliar situations.

    1.1: Relevant contributions, for example:

    • ideas that are connected to the topic being discussed
    • stay focused on the subject, avoid off-topic comments
    • ask relevant questions to explore ideas further
    • build on the contributions of others by adding own thoughts

    In discussion, present information and opinions in a logical sequence.

    • organise points clearly before speaking
    • use simple steps to explain opinions or ideas
    • provide examples or reasons to support opinions
