Be able to handle and label non-routine waste safely.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Prepare the work area so that they can complete the task efficiently, correctly and safely.

  • 2.2

    Select and wear appropriate PPE for the task.

  • 2.3

    Segregate or sort waste material for collection before disposal to collection point.

  • 2.4

    Check that storage containers are securely sealed before handling and after moving.

  • 2.5

    Transfer waste safely, using correct handling procedures for sacks, receptacles and/or rigid containers.

  • 2.6

    Mark the origin of waste and label and record movement of waste.

  • 2.7

    Identify sharps that require special handling and use the pick-up kit or specific box for their disposal.

  • 2.8

    Check with the appropriate person before removing unidentified items.

Be able to transfer and deal with non-routine waste containers.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Follow organisational procedures for reducing the risk of contaminating surrounding areas.

  • 3.2

    Report signs of pest infestation and faulty or damaged equipment to the appropriate person.

  • 3.3

    Clean and/or replace waste containers or bin liners, leaving them in the correct place and in a fit condition for use.

  • 3.4

    Safely remove waste spillages.

  • 3.5

    Store cleaning equipment and machinery correctly.

  • 3.6

    Follow organisational procedures for the removal, cleaning and disposal of used PPE.
