In today’s technology-driven world, digital skills are essential for both personal and professional success. Preston College recognises this need and has been making a significant impact on its learners through the delivery of digital qualifications.

The positive outcomes of these qualifications are evident in the testimonials of learners.

Karen Bleakley, a retired teacher, found herself needing to update her IT skills to keep up with the ever-evolving digital landscape.

After enrolling on the Entry Level 3 Essential Digital Skills qualification at Preston College, Karen discovered new keyboard functions and efficient ways to use word processing packages. She also learned how to protect herself against online scams and enhance her web surfing skills.

Karen shared, “The teaching was geared to individual learning and prior knowledge, which I found extremely useful as a much better teaching than the ‘one size fits all’ approach.”

Karen’s journey didn’t stop there. She continued to Level 1 Essential Digital Skills, where she improved her knowledge and application of spreadsheets.

This skill proved invaluable as she managed the tennis subscriptions and payments at her local club, enhancing both her professional and personal life.

Reflecting on her experience, Karen said, “These qualifications provided me with the skills and knowledge I so badly needed. I would highly recommend the courses to anyone, no matter how good or bad their IT skills are.”

For the past four years, Preston College has been delivering EDSQ, supporting a diverse group of learners to enhance their digital skills.

Paul Hand, Curriculum Lead for ESOL Teens 14 – 19 & Adult IT / Community Learning notes that the qualifications have made a significant impact, enabling students to cultivate their learning by searching for information and easily sharing it with tutors via email. They’ve also developed CVs and cover letters, improving their employability prospects. Through creating Word documents and PowerPoint presentations, they’ve seamlessly integrated digital skills into their other courses at college and within their home lives – helping with homework, etc.

Paul said: “As a tutor, it’s incredibly rewarding to see such a varied group from different communities and varied backgrounds embrace this qualification and transform their digital lives. This progress brings immense pride to both me and my team, and as a college, it transforms lives and builds a better future for all. Helping others transform their digital lives and build a brighter future is such a meaningful contribution for everyone involved.”

The college has also successfully upskilled the majority of teaching and administrative staff, fostering a strong digital culture within our institution. This shift not only enhances internal operations but also sets a great example for learners.

Both Karen and Sarah’s testimonials highlight the transformative power of EDSQ qualifications. These courses not only enhance digital skills but also boost confidence and open up new opportunities for learners. Whether it’s for personal development or professional advancement, EDSQ qualifications are making a positive impact on the lives of learners.
