Assessment methods

The assessment methods for the Digital Device Repair Technician apprenticeship consist of the following:

  • Assessment method 1: Practical observation with questioning

The apprentice is observed by an independent assessor in the workplace, carrying out their normal day-to-day activities under standard working conditions. Following the observation, the assessor will ask questions to confirm understanding and competence.

  • Assessment method 2: Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio

The apprentice will submit a portfolio of evidence at Gateway. The portfolio is not directly assessed but will be used by the independent assessor to inform the professional discussion. The professional discussion is a structured, two-way conversation that enables the apprentice to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the standard.
