The Department for Education (DfE) is seeking views on proposals to reform qualifications at level 2 and below.

This consultation is the government’s response to the call for evidence made in 2020. It sets out proposals for the future of qualifications and study at level 2 and below and seeks views on the proposed groups of qualifications that should receive public funding.

The consultation document describes the proposals as “bold” and states that the “qualifications available for 16 to 19 year olds and adults in future will be different from those available today.”

The government’s impact assessment estimates that well over half of all in-scope qualifications may not fit into the future landscape.

With such wide-ranging impact anticipated, it is vital that providers consider the potential impacts on their learners and respond to the consultation.

Gateway Qualifications will be considering the proposals carefully and submitting a response, and we encourage our Centres to do the same.

You can respond to the consultation as an individual or organisation on the DfE website. The deadline for responses is 27th April 2022.
