In partnership with Youth Employment UK and the NHS, we’re supporting the launch of the updated Health and Science Careers Hub and the brand-new Explore Careers in the NHS course.
These resources are designed to help young people from all backgrounds understand the wide range of rewarding career paths available in the NHS – from frontline patient care to vital roles behind the scenes in IT, HR, data, and more.
What’s new?
The Health and Science Careers Hub and Explore Careers in the NHS course offer a fresh, engaging way for learners to explore NHS careers:
- ‘Explore Careers in the NHS’ Course: A new virtual course that introduces learners to different NHS departments through videos and interactive content. It includes a “Starting Your NHS Career” video and department-specific resources to help learners discover what roles might suit them.
- Updated Careers Hub: A comprehensive guide to NHS and health/science careers. Each role includes:
- A clear summary of duties and responsibilities
- Average salary and workforce insights
- Required qualifications and skills (technical and soft)
- Career progression opportunities
- FAQs like “How do I get work experience?” and “What work experience is relevant to this role?”
- Interactive Workbooks: Downloadable and editable workbooks for KS3 and KS4 learners, linked to each department. These help students consolidate their learning and reflect on what they’ve discovered. Teacher guides are also available to support classroom delivery.
Inspiring the next generation of NHS professionals
Why this matters for your learners
These resources are designed to open doors for young people, especially those from underrepresented or hard-to-reach groups. By showcasing the variety of NHS roles and clearly outlining the steps to get there, the hub helps learners build the knowledge and confidence they need to take their first steps toward a fulfilling career.
As a college or training provider, you play a vital role in guiding learners toward meaningful futures. These tools are ready-made to support your career education and help learners see what’s possible.
Fabienne Bailey, Chief Executive Officer of Gateway Qualifications, said:
“By supporting initiatives like this, we’re investing in the future workforce – one that is skilled, informed, and motivated to make a difference. Whether learners pursue clinical roles, digital careers, or support services, we want them to feel confident and capable of stepping into sectors like health and science, where demand is high and opportunities are diverse.”
