Assessment Guidance

Learners should be working with and closely supervised by a suitably qualified and experienced adult when addressing Learning Outcomes 2-3. They should be following instructions at all times and responsible for completing only aspects of cleaning and maintaining animal accommodation.

Unit Learning Outcomes

1.

Know about cleaning and maintaining animal accommodation.

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Give reasons why it is important that animal accommodation is clean and well-maintained.

  • 1.2

    Give reasons why it is important to follow set procedures when cleaning and maintaining animal accommodation.

  • 1.3

    Identify possible hazards which may arise in an animal’s accommodation, and how these should be reported.


2.

Be able to assist with cleaning animal accommodation.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Prepare given equipment and materials and the accommodation ready for cleaning.

  • 2.2

    Follow instructions to assist in cleaning the animal’s accommodation.

  • 2.3

    Follow safety rules to ensure minimal risks to the health, safety and well-being of the animal and self.


3.

Be able to assist with maintaining animal accommodation.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Follow instructions to check that the animal accommodation is safe and secure.

  • 3.2

    Identify any major hazards and report these to the appropriate person.

  • 3.3

    Follow instructions to safely dispose of any waste.
