Assessment Guidance

The activity may involve simulation; it may focus on planning or preparation rather than delivery or production, but it must require learners to be practically and actively engaged.

Teachers are expected to cover the following underpinning knowledge, although there is no requirement to explicitly demonstrate this in the assessment evidence. Learners should
• develop an awareness of the diverse range of health and social care settings before practically getting involved in a typical activity associated with one of these
• be introduced to the core values of the health and social care sector
• be given key information to help them understand the purpose of the activity and how to perform it well
• be made aware of key health and safety requirements associated with the activity and why they are important to follow
• be given a chance to consider some key factors associated with working in/studying health and social care to help inform their decisions about whether it’s the right sector for them (e.g. behaviours, attitudes and skills needed; whether the tasks involved are of interest to them)

Aim

To introduce learners to the vocational area of health and social care through practical activity so that they gain a basic understanding of typical tasks, appropriate behaviours and attitudes, and working practices. Learners will also have the opportunity to consider if health and social care would be a suitable sector for them for further study or employment.

    Follow given health and safety rules appropriate to the activity and environment.

Be able to reflect on own performance and on their suitability for working in/studying health and social care.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    State what they did well and what they did less well when engaging in the activity.

  • 4.2

    State what they liked and what they did not like about engaging in the activity.

  • 4.3

    Give reasons why health and social care may or may not be a suitable sector for further study or employment for them, citing preferences for particular health and social care roles or settings where appropriate.
