Two way switching

  • draw out a switching diagram for first and ground floor hall lighting
  • draw out a switching diagram for single pole lighting circuit covering both:

                         - lighting circuits via ceiling rose         

                         - lighting circuits via junction boxes

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Describe how to follow circuit and wiring diagrams for lighting circuits.

  • 1.2

    Demonstrate how to install one-way and two-way lighting circuits.

Be able to install power circuits. 

Demonstrate skills in

  •  following circuit diagrams provided for final ring circuits
  •  installation of a final ring circuit
  •  installation of a radial circuit to an appliance e.g. cooker, fire

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Describe how to follow circuit and wiring diagrams for power circuits.

  • 2.2

    Demonstrate how to install radial and simple final ring main circuits.

Know the components of a heating control system.

Demonstrate central heating controls

  •  wiring of thermostats
  •  wiring of outside sensors
  •  wiring to boiler controls with switched fused spur

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Describe the basic components of a heating control system.

Be able to terminate aerial plugs, telephone plugs and sockets.

Demonstrate communication wiring

  •  wiring of a satellite cable to a terminal socket
  •  wiring of a telephone line to a terminal socket
  •  wiring of an Ethernet cable to a socket

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Demonstrate how to terminate coaxial satellite cable leading into plugs and sockets.

  • 4.2

    Demonstrate how to terminate telephone / broadband cable leading into plugs and sockets.

Be able to carry out continuity tests.

Demonstrate testing wiring

  •  test a power circuit
  •  earthing test
  •  test broadband and telephone lines
