1 — Understand the use of evidence-based interventions with learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND).

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1

    Summarise the concept of ‘evidence-based practice’.

  • 1.2

    Explain the rationale for using evidence-based interventions to meet the needs of learners with SEND.

  • 1.3

    Explain the processes associated with selecting, applying, monitoring and reviewing the efficacy of evidence-based interventions.

2 — Be able to evaluate how well a learning provider applies evidence-based practice.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Assess how effectively a specific learning provider (e.g. school or college) selects and monitors the delivery and impact of interventions for learners with SEND.

  • 2.2

    Analyse the extent to which learner voice is used to review the effectiveness of the provision, including specific interventions.

3 — Be able to contribute to the use of evidence-based interventions.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Identify and record relevant information on learner progress and outcomes associated with one or more specific interventions.

  • 3.2

    Contribute to the analysis of progress data to help determine the effectiveness of a specific intervention for specific individuals.

4 — Be able to support learners to transfer knowledge and skills gained in an evidence-based intervention to other contexts.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1

    Support learners to develop their awareness of what they have learned from a specific evidence-based intervention, and how they have learned it.

  • 4.2

    Support learners to work out ways of applying new learning from a specific evidence-based intervention in different situations.
