Know how to plan and perform chemistry experiments

Assessment Criteria

  • 1.1.

    Plan and carry out experiments involving three of the following:

    • the separation of a mixture
    • determination of the formula of a compound
    • titrimetric or colorimetric analysis
    • synthesis and purification of a substance.
  • 1.2.

    Explain the theoretical concepts behind each of the experiments undertaken.

2.

Be able to produce scientific reports.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Produce reports for each of the experiments using the standard scientific format.

  • 2.2.

    Analyse the results of the experiments and draw relevant conclusions.

3.

Be able to review the experiments.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1

    Review the results of experiments to identify how they could be improved or adapted in future.
