Be able to explain evaluate theories and research relating to attachment theory and early social development.

Attachment theory e.g. Bowlby's attachment theory, Dollard and Miller’s behavioural theory of attachment.

    Evaluate theory of attachment chosen for 1.1.

Be able to analyse the controversial nature of evidence on the effects of enrichment and deprivation.

John Bowlby’s Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis

Research could include Bowlby’s 44 thieves study, Mary Ainsworth strange situation, Rutter’s (2011) English Romanian Adoptee study.

Understand theories relating to children's cognitive and measured intelligence development.

Cognitive Development Piaget’s stage theory of cognitive development versus the work of Vygotsky – the role of social interaction (1978) and Bruner - language as the driving force (1960).

    Compare and contrast different practical applications of these theories .
