Three Theoretical Perspectives e.g:

1945-1979 Post War Consensus

Marxist/Socialist

1979-1997 Thatcherism, New Right, Neo Liberalism

1997-2010 Third Way, New Labour

Students could look at what has happened since 2010.

Understand the impact of welfare provision upon groups of people.

Impact of Welfare Provision on Social Groups

What do we mean by Social Groups? e.g. Families, older people, ethnic groups, people with mental health issues, people with a disability, and those with addictive behaviours.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Explain the relationships between groups of people and welfare provision.

Understand welfare policies in relation to social diversity.

Implications of welfare policies and social diversity e.g.

Housing – Social Cleansing due to rent rises, lack of social housing, Bedroom Tax, 16-21 year olds unable to claim housing benefit.

Immigration – Proposal welfare changes, Residency qualifications – 4 year wait.

Travellers – Planning law and stopping places.

Care Leavers – Lack of support for those in the ‘looked after’ sector, disproportionate numbers involved with criminal behaviour and ending up in prison.
