Assessment Guidance

This unit is based on the relevant National Occupational Standards and should be delivered in accordance with Gateway Qualifications’ assessment and delivery guidance.

To take this unit, candidates must have either completed the health and safety unit or have prior industry experience.

Please note this unit is not permissible for delivery to pre 16 learners for health and safety reasons.

Be able to prepare for basic manicure treatments

In light of COVID-19, learners are able to use plastic models of heads, hands and feet when demonstrating techniques.

Assessment Criteria

    prepare themselves, the client and work area for a basic manicure treatment

    carry out a visual study of the hands and nails to identify factors that will influence the treatment

    outline salon’s requirement for client preparation, preparing themselves and the work area
