1 — Know the purpose of target-setting.

    State how target-setting supports
    a) motivation
    b) planning learning
    c) monitoring progress.
2 — Be able to negotiate personal targets.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1
    Identify targets which
    a) address relevant skills or areas of knowledge
    b) relate to their future aspirations
    c) are challenging and achievable.
  • 2.2
    Use the suggestions of others to develop and refine targets.
3 — Be able to negotiate dates for target completion.

Assessment Criteria

  • 3.1
    Through discussion with others, agree dates for target completion which allow a suitable time for the learning needed.
4 — Understand their own targets.

Assessment Criteria

  • 4.1
    Outline the knowledge, skills or behaviours they will need to develop to meet each target, including the standard required (e.g. ‘using 3 digit numbers’).
  • 4.2
    Identify specific activities or elements of their programme which will provide opportunities to work towards each target.
  • 4.3
    Outline how meeting each target will help them progress towards their longer-term goals.
