Assessment Guidance

Learners can demonstrate the oral and written communication skills required for Learning Outcomes 2 and 3 through simulation. They are not required to speak in a legal setting or to produce legal documents for actual use. However, learners must be given the opportunity to communicate in a realistic legal context, for example through the use of scenarios and role play.

    Explain the principles of effective communication in the context of law.

    Describe effective methods for communicating with legal colleagues and with clients.

  • 1.3

    Outline effective practice for communicating about legal concepts and interpreting legal terms for those who are not legal professionals.

Be able to use oral communication effectively in the context of law.

Assessment Criteria

  • 2.1

    Use appropriate forms of oral communication, in the context of law, for different purposes and in different situations, adjusting tone, register and language, as appropriate.

  • 2.2

    Apply relevant skills to communicate with different people in the context of law, including use of non-verbal communication.

Be able to use written communication effectively in the context of law.

  • 3.1

    Apply relevant skills to communicate with different people in the context of law, including use of non-verbal communication.

  • 3.2

    Produce documents relating to law that

    • are clearly and accurately presented

    • include correct legal terminology

    • are appropriate for the intended audience.
