The 2026 winner of the Gateway Qualifications Access to HE Tutor of the Year Award is Pam Jones from UCS College Group.
Through her teaching, Pam supports learners in rebuilding confidence, developing academic skills, and progressing onto opportunities that may once have felt out of reach.
Her impact reflects what Access to HE is all about, creating routes back into education and enabling adults to move forward with purpose.
A powerful reminder of the lasting impact great teaching can have.
Here’s what her students have to say:
“Pam has taught me far more than I ever learned in school. I’d actually recommend the Access course to anyone who struggled in school because Pam has created a space in which learning is fascinating.”
“Pam is an inspiration and makes learning possible for everyone who is motivated to improve their lives through education. “
“Throughout my whole education, Pam has been the best teacher I have had overall.”
“I can’t fully express how grateful I am to Pam. She didn’t just help me finish a course; she changed my life for the better. I have a whole new confidence in everyday life. She gave me chances I never thought I’d have”
Celebrating Access to HE tutors
This year, we received 104 nominations from learners recognising the difference their tutors have made.
From these, 10 finalists were selected. Every nomination reflects the same commitment that underpins Access to HE provision across the country.
Access to HE tutors support learners who often balance study with work, family, and other responsibilities. Many are returning to education after time away, and need both academic guidance and personal encouragement to succeed.
It takes a dedicated and adaptable tutor to meet those needs — building confidence, recognising potential, and going beyond the curriculum to support each individual’s journey.
While we celebrate our top 10 finalists and this year’s winner, all nominations are a clear testament to the impact of Access to HE tutors everywhere.
