The aim of the qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and practical skills in mobile app development by enabling them to understand the characteristics of mobile apps, design solutions that meet user needs, create functional apps using appropriate tools and technologies, and test their completed apps for functionality and usability. Through this, learners gain a solid foundation for further study or entry‑level roles within the digital and mobile technologies sector.
The objectives of the qualification are to provide learners with the opportunity to:
• develop an understanding of the key characteristics and features of mobile apps
• design a mobile app that responds effectively to identified user needs
• build a functional mobile app using appropriate tools and techniques
• test and refine the completed app to ensure it meets usability and performance requirements
• develop confidence with digital creation tools
• build a foundation for progression to further study in mobile or software development

Centres must ensure that this qualification suits the age and abilities of their learners by ensuring that learners can meet the relevant literacy, numeracy, digital, and health and safety requirements of the qualification.
Learners enrolled on this qualification should not undertake another qualification at the same level with a similar title or content, as this could impact funding eligibility due to duplicated learning.
On completion of this qualification learners will be equipped with the basic knowledge, understanding and skills related to Mobile App Development.
Successful completion of the Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Award in Mobile App Development could allow learners to progress onto:
• Gateway Qualifications Level 2 Award/Certificate/Extended Certificate/Diploma in Digital and IT Skills
• Level 2 qualifications in Digital and IT
• entry-level employment roles related to mobile app development
