*Update 09/04/2020 – QAA has published guidance for students and centres on how grades will be calculated
Calculating grades for the Award of the Access to HE Diploma
The DfE and QAA today announced that Access to HE students due to complete their course by 31st July 2020 will now receive calculated grades for all remaining assessment with submission dates after March 2020.
Students will be awarded a graded diploma based on assessment they have already completed with calculated grades for all remaining assessments with submission dates after 20 March 2020. The calculated grade will take into account tutors’ assessment of the likely grade, as well as other factors such as prior attainment on course. More information about calculated grades can be found by attending the online QAA Access to HE Conference – details below.
If a student does not feel their calculated grades reflect their expected performance, they will have the opportunity to appeal or they may choose to sit their assessments at the earliest reasonable opportunity. Again, further details on how this will work are being finalised and will be shared at the earliest opportunity.
Many of our centres and learners have demonstrated exceptional commitment to move swiftly to alternative methods of teaching and wherever possible we would encourage you to continue to support your Access to HE learners to complete their studies so that they are as well prepared as possible for higher education.
Students who were due to complete their Access to HE course after 31st July 2020 should be supported to complete their studies through changes to delivery and assessments (please use our form to notify us of any such changes). If students are unable to study due to the current circumstances, please make use of existing procedures for extensions or reasonable adjustments.
