On the 27th of May 2025, several significant announcements were made, with the most notable being the change of funding for Level 7 Apprenticeships.
A key addition to the GOV.UK site is the new Skills England webpage. This includes featured articles, such as the prominent piece on the ‘Next generation of builders and carers set to rebuild Britain’. The page also provides detailed information on Skills England’s governance, an ‘About Us’ section, and a complaints procedure.
We are particularly pleased to see the full list of the Board members, showcasing a diverse group. We eagerly anticipate their contributions to guiding the strategic direction of Skills England.
Skills England Responsibilities
In the ‘About Us’ section, Skills England outlines its core responsibilities:
- Working across government to provide the authoritative voice on current and future skills needs in order to inform the government’s mission to kickstart economic growth
- Publishing sector skills assessments with analysis of needs
- co-creating and refining a set of education and training products with employers and other partners, including occupational standards, apprenticeships and technical qualifications
- advising the Department for Education (DfE) on how to best shape the growth and skills offer
- participating in the Labour Market Evidence Group (LMEG) to gather and share evidence about the state of the workforce, focusing on sectors which rely on high levels of immigration
- working with local and regional partners to use data and insight, including their local skills improvement plans, to develop solutions for tackling local labour market challenges and responding to national priorities
Additionally, Skills England has made their LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube page links available on the site for further engagement.
We are closely monitoring these developments and await more information on the introduction of Apprenticeship Assessment Principles and the integration of IfATE to Skills England, following the recent bill to abolish receiving Royal Assent. The transition of the IfATE website to GOV.UK is also anticipated.
