Intended learner groups
a) Adults who, because of social, educational or individual circumstances may have achieved few, if any, prior qualifications and wish to progress to HE
b) Adults who have gone straight into industry (perhaps following apprenticeship routes) who wish to progress to HE.
How this diploma meets learners' needs
It would give the required entry qualifications to enable learners to enter the type of qualifications listed above. A focus on academic literacy, presentation of data, communication and presentation of information is built into the ungraded units to support learners who have not studied at level 3 before to give equal opportunities to achieve high grades in their chosen Diploma and degree choices, whilst developing practical and academic subject specific skills and knowledge
What this diploma covers
The mandatory subject for this diploma is Maths. Depending on the area they choose to specialise in within Higher Education, secondary subjects in Physics or Chemistry may be studied. This enables learners to specialise in these areas and gain experience in areas such as research methodology across wide areas of Higher Education.
Our core units are chosen to enable learners to gain vital experience in the areas of research, written work and presentational/discussion skills applicable across the curriculum areas shown above.
Delivery methods
A wide range of delivery methods will be used with provision for blended learning if this needs to be deployed. Methods include, lectures, discussions, role play activities, independent and supported research and presentations.
