  • Why choose this qualification?

    The Entry 1 – Level 1 Living and Working in the UK qualifications are intended to support centres delivering programmes to develop learners’ understanding of key aspects of British society.  They have been developed primarily for use with learners relatively new to the UK who may also be learning English as an additional language.  However, centres may find them equally appropriate for other learners working at Entry and level 1 who wish to improve their understanding of core aspects of British society. The qualifications have been developed in collaboration with the further education sector.

    There are no entry requirements for this qualification. Learners can progress from this award to the Entry 3 Award in Living and Working in the UK and onward to the Level 1 award.

    Learners should take the Entry 2 award if they have some prior knowledge of the UK and wish to develop their knowledge of religion, customs and culture in the UK.

    This qualification enhances our ESOL qualifications, helping to support the learner with more than just the English language so they can play a full part in UK society.

    What is the purpose of this qualification?

    The qualification gives learners a basic understanding of religion, customs and culture in the UK. It is primarily aimed at learners who have arrived relatively recently in the UK, who may also be learning English as an additional language, in order to help them integrate quickly and easily.


    What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

    Learners will develop an understanding of the make-up of the UK, some key places within it, ways in which to meet people and the UK school system.


    How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?

    Learners should take the Entry 2 award if they have some prior knowledge of the UK and wish to develop their knowledge of religion, customs and culture in the UK.


    How will this qualification support the learner’s independence?

    The qualification provides learners with a basic understanding of living and working in the UK which will help them to integrate and operate more effectively.

    There are no entry requirements for this qualification. Learners can progress from this award to the Entry 3 Award in Living and Working in the UK and onwards to the Level 1 award.
