    What is the purpose of this qualification?

    The qualification is designed for those returning to learning who want to progress onto further learning or training such as higher level qualifications, vocational qualifications or apprenticeships. It will be of particular interest to learners who are aspiring to higher education but are not yet ready for an Access to Higher Education Diploma.


    What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

    This qualification includes 3 mandatory units: Effective Learning; Career Planning and Carrying out an Extended Project.

    The units cover:
    • understanding of target setting, learning styles and techniques, working effectively within group work,
    • the skills required to use and apply technology to support learning, investigate career options, career progression and career planning
    • the skills needed for project planning, research, time management, presentation and evaluation within own chosen topic area related to their intended target progression route.

    The qualification is designed for those returning to learning who want to progress onto further learning or training such as higher level qualifications, vocational qualifications or apprenticeships. It will be of particular interest to learners who are aspiring to higher education but are not yet ready for an Access to Higher Education Diploma.


    Which sector does this qualification support?

    The qualification is not intended to lead directly to employment, but to provide progression to further learning from which the learner can then progress to employment. In some circumstances, the learning to which successful learners may progress could be work-based, eg. an apprenticeship.


    How will this qualification support the learner’s independence?

    This qualification is designed to enable progression into further learning such as an Access to Higher Education Diploma, an Apprenticeship or vocational courses at a higher level
