The Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Award in Supporting the Maths Learning of Individuals with Dyslexia is suitable for those want to improve their ability to support the maths learning of individuals with dyslexia. It will be particularly relevant for teachers, teaching assistants and learning support staff who have responsibility for supporting learners with dyslexia in their maths learning. Individuals will need to be in a role where they are offering learning support in a maths learning context in order to meet the assessment requirements for the qualification.
Learners will take one mandatory unit which covers the effect of dyslexia and of difficulties with working memory on maths learning, key dyslexia markers in the context of maths learning, strategies and resources for supporting maths learning for individuals with dyslexia and how to apply support strategies in practice.
Individuals could progress from this qualification to the Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Literacy Learning of Individuals with Dyslexia or on to a broader Level 4 qualification such as the Gateway Qualifications Level 4 Certificate in Supporting the Learning of Learners with Special Educational Needs and Disability. Learners may also choose to develop your understanding of other learning difficulties or disabilities, and learn how to support individuals with these, through further Level 3 qualifications such as Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Award in Supporting Learners with Autism or Level 3 Award in Supporting Learners with Dyspraxia.
Learners must be 19 or over to enter for this qualification but do not need any specific qualifications or prior levels of attainment to be eligible to take the qualification. The qualification will help individuals develop in an existing role, such as a teacher, teaching assistant or learning support practitioner, and to take on additional responsibility.
