What is the purpose of this qualification?

This qualification is primarily aimed at learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or with Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND), including those with complex needs, who will benefit from a course that develops skills valuable in an employment context, through participating in enterprise activity.

What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

This qualification covers the basic skills needed to contribute to enterprise activity alongside more generic employability skills, such as following instructions and working in a team. Learners must complete at least one unit from:

    • Exploring enterprise
    • Preparing for an enterprise activity
    • Contribute to running an enterprise activity.
They can combine this unit with one or more further units, enabling learners and providers to work together to select areas of learning appropriate to the individual’s needs, interests and aspirations for employment, in line with the aims of the SEND reforms.

How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?

There is a Gateway Qualifications Entry 1 Award and Certificate in Enterprise. The Award is designed to meet the needs of learners for whom a small amount of accredited enterprise-focused learning is appropriate, whether as a stand-alone course for older learners or as part of a broader programme for 16-19/25 year olds on study programmes who may wish to combine this small amount of accredited learning with a broader unaccredited programme tailored to their personal goals. It is particularly suitable for learners with more complex needs, where it is beneficial for their programme to be specifically focused on a carefully selected core skill set, relevant to their specific needs and interests.

Which sector does this qualification support?

This qualification supports progression to supported employment opportunities across a range of sectors

    What are the progression options?

Learners can progress from this qualification to further Entry level learning in the area of enterprise, for example the Gateway Qualifications Entry level Certificate in Enterprise (Entry 2) or in the area of employability skills, including, for example, the Gateway Qualifications Entry level Certificate in Preparation for Employment (Entry 2).

    Progression & Entry Requirements
