Assessment Approach: Apprenticeship Assessment
We work in partnership with training providers, employers and apprentices to deliver a high-quality apprenticeship assessment service that is responsive, personalised and transparent.
Our experience with Gateway Qualifications has been highly positive. The proactive approach taken by the EPA Operations Manager to review our apprenticeship delivery and provide clear, constructive recommendations ensured our learners are thoroughly prepared for End-point Assessment. The feedback was shared at precisely the right time and has been fully embedded into the programme design. This kind of collaborative support is rare and demonstrates a real commitment to quality and learner success.

We ask that you register apprentices as early as possible for several reasons:
Gateway requirements vary by apprenticeship standard. But for each standard, we require a Gateway Declaration and Authentication Statement (GDaAS), which is a signed document by the provider, employer and apprentice. We have provided one of these for each standard and within it is a list of all other documents to be submitted at Gateway.
English and Maths evidence requirements at Gateway depend on the apprentice’s age at the start of their apprenticeship; this is detailed in the GDaAS.
Yes and no! We recommend you read our Artificial Intelligence (AI) and use in Assessment Principles.
We appreciate that some roles require the apprentice to use AI applications to complete the activity being undertaken. Where this occurs, we require that the apprentice cite their source, and the purpose for use of AI is recorded within the relevant mapping document, and possibly the evidence if relevant to the context of the evidence.
Yes. All apprentices receive feedback following assessment, regardless of the outcome.
Where an apprentice has not achieved the required standard, we will highlight the assessment criteria and grading descriptors that were not met, alongside any areas that were successfully achieved. While we cannot provide feedback that would directly support a resit, our feedback is designed to help apprentices understand their performance against the assessment requirements.
If you already have a Proficient account, visit Proficient and sign in using your registered email address.

Apprenticeship Assessment is how your apprenticeship achievements are assessed against the requirements of your chosen apprenticeship standard.
Every apprenticeship is different, so the assessment activities and requirements will depend on the standard you’re completing.
Speak to your training provider for guidance on your assessment journey, or explore your apprenticeship standard for more information.
Your training provider will support you throughout your apprenticeship and help you prepare for assessment.
You should familiarise yourself with the assessment requirements for your apprenticeship standard, understand what assessment activities are involved, and make use of any guidance and support materials available.
For information about your specific assessment requirements, visit the relevant apprenticeship standard page or speak to your training provider.
