Rules of Combination

Learners must achieve 6 credits in total. The 6 credits can be taken from any part of the Qualification with a maximum of 1 unit allowed from each unit group. Learners must achieve a minimum of 3 credits at Entry 1.

What is the purpose of this qualification?

This qualification is aimed at learners working at Entry level, in particular those with learning difficulties and disabilities, including those with complex needs, who need to develop their skills and/or knowledge in order to operate more independently.

The qualification will be suitable for learners, including those on 16-19/25 study programmes, who wish to combine a small amount of accredited learning with a broader unaccredited programme tailored to their personal goals, or to combine this award with one or more further awards focused on different aspects of independent living skills. It is particularly suitable for learners with more complex needs, where it is beneficial for their programme to be specifically focused on a carefully selected core skill set, relevant to their specific needs.

What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?

This qualification includes a range of units covering the skills required for outdoor pursuits, gardening for pleasure, pet care, exploring music and exploring art, from which learners must select two.

How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?

Some learners will be able to make vertical progression to other Gateway Qualifications Entry level qualifications, including, for example, other qualifications within the independent living suite, qualifications in personal and social development or preparation for employment. Others can consolidate and broaden their skills at Entry 1 by taking further awards at this level. The qualification also supports progression to non-accredited learning, including that relating to increasing independence and autonomy.
