Why choose this qualification?
Available at Entry 1, 2 and Entry 3 these qualifications combine enterprise and employability skills and are particularly suitable for learners who are preparing for employment through engaging in enterprise activity, a common vehicle for skills development at Entry level. The qualifications act as a stepping stones towards employment (including supported and/or self-employment) for learners who may face multiple barriers to achieving employment.

This qualification is being withdrawn as it is being superseded by a new Gateway Qualifications Entry Level Certificate in Enterprise (Entry 2) qualification.

Rules of Combination
Learners must complete 13 credits of which a minimum of 8 credits must be at Entry 2, remaining credits can be achieved at, above, or below the level of the qualification. Learners cannot include more than one unit with the same or similar title. For full details see list of barred units.

What is the purpose of this qualification?
This qualification is primarily aimed at learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or with Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND), including those with complex needs, who will benefit from a course that develops skills valuable in an employment context, through participating in enterprise activity.
What skills, knowledge, or understanding does this qualification develop?
This qualification covers the basic knowledge and skills needed to take part in enterprise activity, many of which which will also be valuable in other employment contexts (e.g. market research and selling skills). There are no mandatory units, enabling learners and providers to work together to select areas of learning appropriate to the individual’s needs, interests and aspirations for employment, in line with the aims of the SEND reforms.
How is this qualification different from other, similar qualifications?
There is an Entry 2 Gateway Qualifications Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate in Enterprise. The Certificate is designed to meet the needs of learners, who wish the focus of their learning to be on enterprise and employability, while for those on 16-19/25 study programmes there will also be space in their programme to include other types of learning including non-accredited provision, e.g. that designed to improve independence.

This qualification supports progression to entry-level job roles across sectors, and in particular to supported employment.
What are the progression options?
Learners can progress from this qualification to further Entry level learning in the area of enterprise, for example the Gateway Qualifications Entry level Certificate in Enterprise (Entry 3) or in the area of employability skills, including, for example, the Gateway Qualifications Entry level Certificate in Preparation for Employment (Entry 3).
